This wonderful painting Clam Diggers - Annisquam, an oil  by  Barbara Sesta  was the first painting to sell from our Summer Exhibition.

I love this beautifully textured painting which for me recalls the many days I spent in this area of Gloucester many years ago.  Barbara also has some very  beautiful watercolors in the show.  She counts Sargent and Homer among her influences, and I am sure you will understand that when you see her work.  By the way, a special exhibition of Sargent's watercolors is on right now at the Brooklyn Museum.  If you miss it there, it moves to Boston next.  I plan to see it there this Autumn.
We are as proud as ever to represent Bucks County artist Dot BunnDot is totally immersed in the art scene of our area where she contributes her tremendous talent to projects like the one she is heading up at the Strawberry Mansion in Philadelphia. Dot is working on a special commission mural at the historic site and museum.  An unveiling is planned for September.  To learn more about this very special project, visit these websites:

Dot also won Best of Show in this year's Artsbridge Exhibition and was selected for the Art of the State Exhibition in Harrisburg.
Boston artist David Lowrey who did this magnificent copy of Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring entitled Homage to Vermeer,  was recently seen on the Boston television show Chronicle in a feature on the Fenway Studios.  The Fenway Studio is the oldest continuously functioning atelier in the country (established 1905) and David has been working there for over 40 years. David speaks of his art, his love for the old master paintings, the aesthetics of the past, and the studio - describing the Fenway as a painter's paradise.  The Guild of Boston Artists featured David's series of Vermeer tributes in an exhibition there.  We are so lucky to have had this one in our gallery in Doylestown.  We have just sold it to a very astute collector.

Many of our artists participate in local and regional juried exhibitions in support of art leagues and other worthy causes.  Recently Janine Dunn Wade was awarded a prize by the Lambertville Historical Society for one of the pastel street scenes she is so well known for.  The gallery has many wonderful choices of Janine's pastels.  A few months ago, Janine decided to also offer small floral oils which she so enjoys painting.  I absolutely loved them, but had  no idea at the time just how popular they would be with our visitors.  We have sold 15 to date.  Alive with color, light, and painterly brush strokes, everyone has a favorite!

Patricia Hutton Galleries has banded together with six other area galleries to form an association known as the
Bucks County Fine Art Gallery Association.  Our purpose is to join forces to attract visitors to Bucks County and spread the word that there are many fine and varied choices for art in our area.  Many are aware of the very special history associated with our region and we want to remind people that Bucks County is an important destination for avid and beginning collectors alike.  We hope that as a group we can do more to sponsor scholarships, introduce new artists and exhibitions, and invigorate the art scene with special events.
Anyone familiar with the fantastical, energetic work of Nan Hass Feldman will not be surprised to learn that many of her public installations include hospitals.  Her work is uplifting, alive and filled with color.  Her most recent commission is an installation of three large murals for the Pediatric Cancer Lobby at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Nan says they will be for the enjoyment of the children, parents, nurses, and doctors who see them.
Congratulations Nan. Your energy and enthusiasm for life translates in your extraordinary work.

Katharine Krieg spent two wonderful weeks painting on Monhegan Island, Maine.
Following in the footsteps of the legendary artists who painted there (Henri, Bellows, Hopper, Kent), Katharine enjoyed not only the natural beauty, and opportunity to paint plein air, but the camaraderie of many fellow artists.   A haven for artists since the nineteenth century, Katy and many of my other artists tell me Monhegan must be experienced.  There is nothing like it.

Jaime Cooper recently completed a portrait for the cover of an upcoming book on a civil war general.   Said the author,  "She has masterfully presented the most realistic possible portrait of General Barksdale, and one that is certainly the best one yet created by any artist.  I have been allowed to grace this work with a most impressive and excellent portrait of Gen Wm Barksdale by gifted artist Jaime Cooper.

ART TRAVELS AND SUGGESTIONS - NOT TO BE MISSED

Always loving Sargent, and also knowing how many of my artists are inspired by his magnificent work, I could not miss the John Singer Sargent Watercolors Exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.  Our artist Barbara Sesta whose own palette reminds me of Sargent, had seen the exhibit in Brooklyn and assured me I would not be disappointed.  This wonderful show is still in Boston until January 20.  Highly recommended -   It is worth the trip!  Image is of my daughter in the museum restaurant.  A delightful day!

And next  - The Frick Collection in New York presents Masterpieces of Dutch Painting from the Mauritchuis.

As you may remember, we recently sold David Lowrey's wonderful painting, Homage to Vermeer which depicted the Girl with the Pearl Earring. I am looking forward to seeing the original.  The exhibit runs until January 19.

This is Steve's second acceptance into the annual exhibition.  This second acceptance makes him eligible to become a member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club.  Founded in 1871, the Salmagundi Club is one of the oldest art organizations in the US.  Its membership has included some of the most important names in American art.  Today the club builds on this legacy by providing a center for the resurgence of representational art in America.

Our gallery always has a good selection of Steve's work.  He will also be a featured artist during Doylestown Art Days happening early this June.
