Materese Roche is a classically trained artist specializing in landscape and and still life. Her award winning paintings are both atmospheric and sensual. She has exhibited in many venues in the Philadelphia area including: Phillips Mill, Gratz Gallery, Newman Galleries, the Pennsylvania Academy and the Philadelphia Sketch Club. After spending 20 years in corporate and non-profit positions in finance and international human resources, she resumed serious study of oil painting and drawing: first studying with master still life artist Frank Arcuri, followed by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and then a course of studies in aesthetics at the Barnes Foundation. She continues to independently study the work of great masters and attends workshops.
"What inspires me most is nature, its raw power, contrasted with exquisitely sensitive gradations of atmosphere and light - this contradiction, these opposites that are almost at odds with each other and at the same time in complete harmony - that's what keeps me going back to the easel every day."
Recent awards include Best of Show: Galaxy 2013, Doylestown.
